Parks and Resorts- The Swan and Dolphin Hotels

The Swan and the Dolphin are two exquisite resorts at Walt Disney World, but you'd never know it. These two resorts are unique. They were in essence a settlement compromise to avoid a legal judgment. They are in the middle of the EPCOT resort area, in prime real estate locations, yet they are owned by outside companies, therefore Disney has minimal use for them. They don't advertise for them on their promotional materials, they don't connect to any monorail, they only get the buses (like any other resort) or the boat (from a communal pier) to EPCOT and DHS.

In terms of amenities, these resorts fall likely somewhere between a moderate and a deluxe resort. Staying at one of these resorts is a fun and unique experience. Guests should know that staying here will likely require some sacrifices. Since it is not Disney owned, you are likely to wait longer and have more hassle with transportation, there are no true Disney character dining, and the resort is mostly themed for adults. However, I believe these resorts are a true gem due to the following reasons

1- Not many people know about them. These resorts are front and center, but since they are not Disney owned, anyone who buys a vacation from the Disney website can access these hotels for reservations, but the marketing is not so front and center. Disney gets more profit off of guests staying at their hotels, so that's naturally where they want guests to go. Due to this, the average stay at Swan or Dolphin is usually 2/3 full so it does not feel packed.

2- Price point is excellent. For the amenities you get at Swan and Dolphin, you really are getting a great value. Depending on the season, a week at a Disney resort will cost you easily thousands of dollars. The average night at the Swan or Dolphin is around $218! This is a much more cost effective way to enjoy the resort, from a prominent resort area, with lots of amenities.

3- The restaurants are stellar. These are adult restaurants, but a huge applause to Todd English's Bluezoo, Shula's Steak house, Il Mulino, and more. Italian? Sushi? Steak? It's all there. These are signature restaurants (and are expensive), but are not crowded and taste great at the end of the day.

How could these resorts be improved?  Personally, I believe that Disney should buy out the two companies and take over these hotels. The location is too great to ignore and pretend. Furthermore, the marketing makes it a second tier hotel, but it need not be. This could be the hotel for honeymooners or young couples with little money who want a little bit of splurging. Thoughts?
