Corporate- The future of the Muppets

What should the future of the Muppets be and where do they fit in with the Disney universe?

The Muppets have been under Disney control since 2004, but they have not been heavily leveraged to their fullest potential. The Muppets are a unique combination of characters that are humorous and heartwarming, but in a way that the Mickey and Friends characters cannot. These characters communicate more to adults and showcase distinct personalities, so they should be utilized fully in all aspects of the park. Unfortunately, Iger is not a big supporter of the Muppets, so they languish pretty consistently. Where should they be used?

First of all, they have had some use in the past few years. Starting in 2011, the Muppets were showcased in a film aptly titled "The Muppets", this was a great revisiting of the characters in a fresh scenario. In 2014 there was the sequel "Muppets Most Wanted", which was pretty tame and boring, but had much more potential. In 2016 ABC created a live action Muppet show, but due to prohibitive costs and mediocre viewership numbers, the series was canceled shortly after one season. Currently in development is a Muppet babies reboot, but that should not even count as truly utilizing their purpose.

Here is where they should be used

Movies- We need some more traditional Muppet Movies (not gimmicky ones like Muppets in Space, Most Wanted, etc.).
The original title of Muppets Most Wanted was "The Muppets...Again", (which is still in the main score), and this would be have very exciting. These characters are born to make fun of themselves and the previously in development "The Cheapest Muppet movie ever made" would be hilarious. A Muppet movie should be made at least every 3-4 years.

Consumer Products- Muppets are great stuffed dolls and can be sold in all stores in the parks and in Disney stores...but they have to be relevant again!

Television- The Muppets should not have their own weekly show, but the commercials involving the characters (airing on Disney channel and Disney Jr.) are nice.

Parks and Resorts- This is really where the company can tie in the movies with.
Currently, the Muppets have an attraction (Muppet Vision 4D), and a new quick service restaurant, but that is not fully utilizing them. The presence should be much stronger. The humor of the Muppets come from their interactions and personalities, so new attractions could be more challenging, but they are doable.  Disney's Hollywood studios should expand this area of the park to include 3 attractions (including Muppet Vision) and should have at least one full service restaurant (I suggest re-theming Mama Melrose's) into a restaurant where the rats are above you, etc. The Muppets should also have a presence in Disney's California Adventure, thereby plussing that park. A value resort could even be based on them in some fashion, much like Art of Animation resort.

Disney needs some PG-13 to even R rated humor (maybe rekindle Touchstone pictures???). Their humor is unique and classic. Let's bring the Muppets back because I love me some Muppets!
